If Mixamo says "unable to map your existing skeleton" when you upload a Meshy FBX, the metallic and roughness maps on the model are almost always the cause. **Rig a white (untextured) version, or one with base color only, download it as FBX**, and upload that file instead. Mixamo accepts rigged characters in that form.

Changing the skeleton type (Mixamo or MeshyRig) won't help, and GLB files won't work in Mixamo at all, because it only accepts FBX, OBJ or ZIP uploads.

# Why this happens

Mixamo can't read the way metallic and roughness maps are attached to a rigged FBX, so it rejects the file.

Meshy downloads your textured model with the full set of PBR maps (base color, normal, metallic and roughness) connected to the material. That keeps your model looking right in Blender, Unity, Unreal Engine and other tools. In our tests, the same rigged character was accepted by Mixamo with only base color and normal maps, and rejected once the metallic and roughness maps were added. The skeleton itself is fine.

# How to get your Meshy model into Mixamo

Remove the texture before you rig, download a new FBX, then upload that file to Mixamo.

1. In Meshy, start from the white (untextured) model. If your model is already textured, regenerate an untextured model.

2. Rig the white model in Meshy's [Animate panel](https://www.meshy.ai/workspace?sidebar=animate).

3. Download the new rigged model as an FBX.

4. Go to [mixamo.com](https://www.mixamo.com), sign in with your Adobe ID, and choose Upload Character.

5. Mixamo recognizes the existing skeleton and takes you to the Review step. Click Next to confirm.

6. Pick an animation and download the animated character from Mixamo as an FBX.

7. Import the file into Blender, Unity, Unreal Engine or your tool of choice, and reconnect your textures there. If you need the metallic and roughness maps, use the ones from your textured Meshy download.

If you'd rather let Mixamo do the rigging, upload an un-rigged white model instead. The Auto-Rigger will ask you to place markers on the chin, wrists, elbows, knees and groin.
