If you're building a scene, comic, or game with a recurring character, you'll want that character to look the same every time it's regenerated in a new pose or setting. Meshy doesn't retain a persistent "character identity" between separate generations, but a few workflow habits get you very close. This article covers what consistency really means in Meshy, how to use reference images, custom poses, texture reuse, and known limitations.

What consistency means

Each generation in Meshy is produced independently, so "consistency" means deliberately feeding the same visual anchors (reference images, prompts, and textures) into every generation rather than relying on the model to remember a character across sessions.

Reference image strategy

Use Image to 3D with the same clean reference image (or a small consistent set of angles) for every pose or scene featuring that character. Keeping the reference framing, lighting, and color palette consistent across generations is the single biggest lever for a matching look.

Use your first successful output as a future reference. Once you get a generation you're happy with, render or screenshot it from neutral angles — front, 45° three-quarter, and side — and use those shots as your reference images going forward. This anchors subsequent generations to an output you already approved, rather than an external concept image that may drift in interpretation.

Cover the standard turnaround trio. When building your reference image set, aim for at least three angles: front, 45° three-quarter, and side. These give the model enough coverage to reconstruct consistent silhouette, proportions, and surface detail across new poses.

Custom pose

For posed variants of the same character, generate a neutral A-pose or T-pose model first, then use custom pose generation to reposition it rather than regenerating from scratch each time — this keeps proportions and details stable across poses.

Naming and detail notes

Lock in a style anchor too — for example "low-poly stylized, not realistic" — so the artistic register stays stable across generations.

Reusing textures

Where possible, reuse or reapply the same texture set across pose variants instead of letting each generation retexture independently — this keeps materials and color consistent across the set.

Limitations

Meshy does not currently guarantee pixel-perfect identity across separate generations, especially for fine facial features or intricate accessories. Expect to do light manual cleanup (in Meshy's edit tools or your DCC/engine of choice) for the closest match across a full pose set.

Tip for reducing facial drift: Faces are the hardest area to keep consistent because small generative variations are most visible in fine detail. Using a flat or stylized art style (rather than hyper-realistic) significantly reduces facial drift between generations — there's simply less micro-detail to lose. If character face fidelity is critical, consider stylized aesthetics during the generation phase and add realism in your DCC afterward.

Blender and engine handoff

Once you have a consistent pose set, export each variant with the same scale and orientation settings so they line up correctly when brought into Blender, Unity, or Unreal Engine for final scene assembly or animation.
