Meshy can turn a photo, a sketch, or a text prompt into a fully colored 3D model ready for multi-color 3D printing. This guide walks through the full pipeline — from choosing your input to slicing the final print.
Step 1: Choose Your Input
Photo — use Image to 3D for the most accurate colors and proportions from a real object.
Sketch — a clean line drawing or colored sketch works well with Image to 3D; simpler sketches produce more predictable results.
Text prompt — use Text to 3D when you don't have a reference image and want Meshy to design the model and colors for you.
Step 2: Generate the Model
Generate your model as usual, then refine the texture pass if colors look muted or inaccurate. Once you're happy with the result, move on to preparing it for multi-color printing.
Step 3: Set Up the Multi-Color Print
Click the printing icon at the bottom of the viewer and choose Multi-Color Printing.
Pick a color count between 1 and 16 — 4 colors is a good default for balancing quality and print complexity.
Adjust the Level of Detail to match how intricate your model's textures are.
Step 4: Export as 3MF
Always export the optimized multi-color model as 3MF — this is the only format that preserves the color regions Meshy generated. Exporting as STL will discard all color data.

Import the 3MF file into Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer, or another AMS/MMU-capable slicer. The color assignments should carry over automatically. Fine-tune individual regions with the slicer's color painting tool if needed, then slice and print.
