Why Does My Downloaded STL File Open as example.com?

Learn why your Meshy STL download redirects to example.com and how to fix it by switching browsers, disabling extensions, or changing networks.

Why does this happen?

The most likely cause is that your browser or network environment is intercepting and rewriting the download request.

example.com is a domain reserved by RFC 2606 for documentation and testing. Content blockers, privacy extensions, and corporate proxies often redirect unrecognized requests to this domain as a safe placeholder — instead of allowing the download to proceed normally.

How to fix it

  1. Try a different browser or disable extensions.
Open an Incognito / Private window in Chrome or Firefox. In Safari, disable all extensions and retry in a Private window.

  2. Switch to a different network.
If you're on a corporate or enterprise network, try downloading via a mobile hotspot or a different Wi-Fi connection.

  3. Still not working?
