How do I create an A/T-pose, or custom posed model?

Instructions for generating A and T Pose characters, and custom posed characters.

Updated this week

Game and film developers often need standardized character poses, like T-pose for animation rigging or A-pose for better shoulder skinning. Meshy AI makes it easy with a built-in A/T-Pose switch, available directly in both the Image and Model workspaces. You can also generate custom poses from images - perfect for posed character 3D prints!

Image Workspace

  • Location: You can find pose control in the model generation window in the Image to 3D workspace.

  • How It Works: Enable either the T or A pose toggle before clicking Generate (this costs 0 credits).

  • You'll then get either an A or T pose character output, ready for rigging:

Custom Pose Control

  • Select the "Custom" button to open the custom pose control window.

  • Here you can upload a posed character reference image and use it to modify your original image before generating your model.

  • Select "Send to Custom Pose" to generate (10 credit cost).

Your character is now custom posed!

Important Notes

  • The A/T-Pose and custom pose features are designed for humanoid characters. If your prompt or image input isn’t clearly humanoid, Meshy will still try, but results may vary.

  • The toggle only affects pose, not textures, materials, or other design aspects.

  • Pose controls are not currently compatible with any image that may be detected as NSFW, as of January 2026 (this will always result in a failed generation).
