Our Texture Edit tool lets you customize the look of 3D models you've already generated. You can change colors, add patterns, or apply entirely new textures to specific parts of your model.
1. Navigating to Texture Edit
Once you've generated a 3D model, you'll see a Texture Edit icon on the bottom middle section of your screen:
By default, you will be in Free Camera Mode, with the left part of your screen showing your model and history of edits once you make them:
Please note: the original texture will be shown in this window, and not the PBR preview if you had that selected previously.
2. Selecting Your Mesh
Before you can edit, you need to select the part of the model you want to change.
Click on a specific part of your 3D model. For example, if you have a model of a knight, you can select just the helmet, the sword, or the shield.
Once selected, the chosen area will be highlighted with a light green outline:
You use either a brush or lasso tool, and select the size of the brush. There is also an erase button, a toggle on/off selection button, and trash icon to delete your selection:
3. Writing Your Prompt
Now it's time to describe the new texture you want. In the prompt box, type a clear description of the new look:
Be specific: Instead of "change to a different texture," try "a shiny, bronze texture with intricate carvings."
Use descriptive words: Mention colors, materials, and styles. For example, "a vibrant red, velvety material," or "a weathered wooden texture with visible grain."
Examples:
A smooth, dark-blue, metallic texture
A rustic leather texture with small stitches
A vibrant, cartoonish flame pattern
You can important your original text prompt, and add/edit from there.
The Prompt Influence Strength allows you to control how much of an impact your prompt will have on the final texture result. Higher values will create a stronger effect, while lower values will not enhance the texture selection as much.
4. Generating the New Texture
After you've written your prompt, click the Retexture button:
Meshy will then create a new texture and apply it to the selected part of your model. This may take a few moments.
5. Applying or Discarding the New Texture
You'll receive three versions of the texture, which you can choose from on the left side of your screen:
Clicking each one will show a preview of the texture on your model, on the right side of the screen.
Apply: If you like the new texture, click Apply to save the changes to your 3D model.
Discard: If it's not what you were looking for, click the trash can icon and try writing a new prompt.
6. Saving Your Final Model
Once you're happy with all your changes, click the Save to Model button to create a new model of your newly textured 3D model. This will not replace the original model in your collection.
